Tiny lights are strewn about. There’s a tree in your living room. Either the holiday season is in full swing or you have unique tastes in décor (not that we’re judging either way). Of course, decorations are only part of what makes the holidays fun. Food is another huge component of the season. Humans exchange pies, cookies, and other treats, but what about your furry companion? Here are some great holiday treats that are safe for your dog!
- Cranberry – It’s a staple of the holiday menu and safe for your dog. In fact, it even promotes urinary tract health. Now you know what to do with the leftovers!
- Ginger – Most gingerbread and gingerbread cookies are okay for your furry friend. Ginger has a soothing effect that can aid in digestion.
- Pumpkin – Canned pumpkin is a-okay. Just be sure to avoid the pie filling. It may be too sweet.
- Yogurt – If your dog can handle dairy products (many can’t) try giving them a bit of yogurt. It can be a tasty break from the norm.
- Sweet Potato – We recommend natural sweet potatoes (not sugary canned kind). Dogs love the sweet flavor and it can even help to calm and upset stomach. To be safe, avoid feeding your pet the skins.
As with any treat, try very small amounts first to be safe. Just because something is okay to eat doesn’t mean it will sit well with your specific dog. Have a happy and safe holiday!
